Trout Tales Fly Fishing is a family business owned by husband and wife guides Ian and Maggie Secrest. After more than a decade in the river guide industry, they understand exactly what goes into delivering unforgettable fly fishing experiences. And, thanks to their dedicated team of Montana guides, Trout Tales can accommodate solo clients, families, and larger group outings.

I grew up on the North Fork of the Flathead River, learning from my dad how to search for trout and appreciate wild places. As cliche as it sounds, I feel most at home on the water. So in 2004 I found my way to Idaho’s Middle Fork of the Salmon River as a class IV whitewater guide where I worked alongside some of the most enthusiastic and capable river folk out there, including my wife, Maggie. I was originally drawn to Bozeman by the unique and abundant trout population, and it still holds my interest after 16 years of guiding. My degree from MSU in Business and Entrepreneurship helps to navigate the paperwork, but my real education has been obtained through learning these waters and fish alongside our eager and diverse fishing clientele.

I was born in the small, river-loving town of Salmon, Idaho where I too learned to admire wild places from my adventurous parents. I eventually became a whitewater river guide on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River where I met Ian and some of our best water loving friends. When we aren’t playing in the sunshine (you know, priorities) or building our house, I work as a Registered Nurse doing prn travel and school nursing. I truly enjoy providing general business support and bolstering public relations for Trout Tales Fly Fishing!
